In a perfect world, everyone would have access to the best fitness equipment, free of charge, every single day. The reality is that for many people, the best fitness equipment means joining a gym, which takes money they don’t have.  What all New Hanover County residents do have is access to our parks.  But access to parks doesn’t always translate into using a park.  So New Hanover County Parks & Gardens is looking for ways to bring more people into our parks by offering a wide variety of activities and we need your help.

We are currently raising funds to add a Challenge Course to Northern Regional Park. The proposed obstacle course is a nod to the “American Ninja Warrior” in all of us.  With obstacles like Lava Leap, Wall Clinger, Summit Bridge and Door Knob Jam, the Challenge Course is designed to create a fun and social fitness experience for people of all generations and fitness levels.

The anticipated cost of construction is $180,000 and the Parks Conservancy is looking for grants and donations to help move the project forward.  If you are interested in learning more about the Challenge Course and how you can help bring it to life, please contact Janine Powell at (910) 798-7703 or
